The town of Cooma is located in the south-east region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the largest town in the Snowy Mountains region and serves as a gateway to the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

Cooma has a population of approximately 6,500 people and is situated at an elevation of 800 metres above sea level. The town experiences a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters.

There are several historic buildings in the town, including the Cooma Courthouse, which was built in 1880 and now houses the Cooma Visitors Centre. Other notable buildings include the Cooma Railway Station, which dates back to 1887, and the Cooma Post Office, which was built in 1889.

Cooma is known for its agricultural industry, particularly sheep and cattle farming. The town is also home to the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, which is Australia's largest engineering project and provides a significant source of renewable energy.
